Really, really good food. Their claim to fame is the prime rib, and there is no doubt in my mind that this is well deserved. The service is good, the decor is a bit dated, but who cares! I've eaten there many times over the years and never had a bad meal. This is the first place I recommend in the New Buffalo area for a good meal.

You have to know what to eat at this restaurant - the prime rib and steaks. For these items, you can't find any better place in the area. I fact Skips rivals any prime rib and steak place in Chicago. I've never seen anyone rave about the other menu items. Go for the prime rib or rib eye steak and you will be a fan who returns year after year as we do!

Hands down one of the best food experiences in Union Pier. Had thier e all you can eat Friday night buffet. Prime rib, crab legs, oysters, mussels, You name it. All of it amazing. Simply among the best steaks I've ever had.

Every time we got to new buffalo we stop at skips for the prime rib. Great meal, nice place, worth the money

I'veonly been here once but it was so bad that I won't come back (and I live just down the street). I can open cans of vegetables at home.

My husband and I stopped at Skip's for the first time on 4/2/11. They offered their prime rib and seafood buffet. It was very very good but the desserts were not up to par with the rest of the meal. We ate a sampling at least of just about everything that was offered. The salad and appetizer bar, seafood and prime rib selections were delicious.

My friend and I had dinner here on a Tuesday eve. It was ribeye night! We both had the ribeye. Cooked to perfection, juicy, tender, and delicious. Came with soup or salad, rolls and a side. Everything was excellent. Skip's decor is old supper club but they can compete with the value and meal to any one around. Brandy old fashion was great too!

The steaks are decent, but not worth putting up with the scented air fresheners that overpower any scent of the grilled beef that they were previously famous for.

Servers are some of the most attentive ever. Food, on the other hand needs a jumpstart. Prime rib served too cold. How do you mess up prime rib? Baked potato comes out in aluminum foil. Skip's has to get itself to the 21st Century. If people become aware of Copper Rock at Four Winds, Skips will lose business. Hard to turn a fine beef establishment into some fast food prime rib place. Skip's, unfortunately, is trying.

This restaurant is one of my favorites. My most recent visit, however, will have me in search of a different place to celebrate and enjoy a $70+ meal. My filet was undercooked (that's what I get for venturing away from my usual prime rib) my potatoes were undercooked and too heavy on sour cream. They were out of the first 3 beers my boyfriend and I chose.

Best prime rib I have ever had! Homemade soups are out of this world and it comes with for meal along with a good salad. I have had their black and blue pasta and salad here as well and it is so delicious! You will not be disappointed ! Must try

One of the local legends that has long lost its way. Once THE place for locals to go for a celebration or special occasion is now beyond its life and use. The original owner past away and his sons inherited it. The food quality is non existent. There are usually very generic buffets that taste all of frozen food and leftovers. Last time we were in to celebrate fathers birthday, a long time friend of the original owner, he agreed it's no longer worth a visit as his prime rib was tough and over cooked, the oyster bar was sadly not quite fresh....and stains on the floor, napkins and servers hard to get past. Needs a major interior update and menu/food upgrades. Priced for the tourism crowd and devoid of any of the charm, friendliness and quality of the original vision of Skip (RIP).

They need Robert Irvine. Badly. $80 a plate and the pictures on the walls have garage sale price tags on them. Plastic ramekins, cheap silverware, horrible decor, cold food....the server and hostess were very nice tho! The "buffet" was similar to eating at a church basement. And the cook came out and was talking loudly to her -family?- about how some baby had to get cream for his butt rash. Greeeaaat. I HATE buffets but my family outvoted me. They were all sorry. We will not be back.

Two stars was a gift. Service was slllloooow. Food was mediocre. If you like tired salads, bland food, and decor as old as some of patrons you'll love it.

If you like bland overpriced food and love a nursing home/funeral home decor.....you will love Skips! Food had absolutely no flavor and surroundings were downright morbid. Not a good choice. It takes a lot for me to review any estsblishment. Im just trying to protect anyone lost and hungry in New Buffalo like we were.

Skip's had a nice prime rib buffet on Christmas Eve. Since we were traveling, that meant a lot to us. The prime rib was delicious and I would have been happy with nothing but that for dinner. There was some kind of fish with almonds on top that my husband had three servings of, he thought it was so delicious. The other fare was buffet fare -mashed potatoes, stuffing, veggies, salad, etc. and okay. The desserts were a little dried out by the time I got one. They did not put out a lot on the salad bar I am guessing because there were not many reservations. The service was very good and the meal enjoyable though overpriced for what was available due to their anticipation of a small crowd.

Skips is totally old school, like a supper club feel. And sure the decor could use some improvement, but it's so cozy! The food is awesome. The prime rib is SO good and the horseradish sauce is amazing. I put it on everything. My husband and I really enjoyed it and have been there many times. And we're in our 30's! ;)

In the interest of full disclosure, I LOVE supper clubs. That being said, my three sisters and I decided to visit Skips during a recent visit to Union Pier. All four of us ordered the prime rib, and it was juicy and delicious. Salad, soup and bread were also very good. My only complaint was with the double-baked potato. Not what I expected. The very large serving of diced potatoes (a la frozen hashed browns) was presented in a small casserole dish, with sour cream and cheese baked in. We'll stick to regular baked potatoes from now on.

This is a good restaurant that serves up quality food and always had good service. It is a bit more expensive but it makes a nice treat for a birthday or anniversary. We mainly enjoy coming here for New Year's Eve. This place seems to cater to the Chicago folks that spend the weekends at their nearby lake houses but it truly is a nice place to treat yourself to if you're a local or just in town visiting. It is a bit more expensive than most nearby Michiana places so it may not be a weekly stop but it is nice for a special occasion. The prime rib is their staple. It's damn delicious to say the least. I would also recommend their mashed potatoes as a side. They aren't normal mashed potatoes. These are triple baked or something and come topped with what they call "skip's seasoning". They are delicious and a must try. As I mentioned before, we like to come here for NYE because they have a solid buffet. The buffet included prime rib, crab, a few different kinds of fish, salad bar, dessert bar, oysters, and some other stuff. Everything they put out is generally good. The only down sides we've found with this place is that it can get busy so make sure you call ahead and make a reservation. My other complaint, which isn't really a complaint, is that Matt (he's either the owner or owner's son) wouldn't spill the beans on what was in their special seasoning or how to make the mashed potatoes. I guess I'll have to keep coming up here to get them every once in a while instead of being able to make them at home. Overall, this place was very good and definitely worth trying. Consider coming here for your next special occasion. Don't expect a cheap tab but expect good food and quality service. We haven't been disappointed and hope you won't be either.

If you're coming to eat here, get the prime rib. It's the best prime rib you will find in the area, and their horseradish sauce is wonderfully toned down yet still pungent. Their prime rib sliders are also delicious. Their other dishes are decent, but the prime rib is the thing to come for. I've been here to eat a few times, once for the weekend seafood buffet. Not really worth the $28.95 they charge...except they do serve all-you-can-eat prime rib on it. So maybe it is :)

My husband and I were visiting New Buffalo for our anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere romantic to celebrate. Skips seemed like the best option in the area. We checked out the menu beforehand and knew the prices going in but based on the prime rib reviews we figured it was worth it. Unfortunately we were very wrong. First of all the atmosphere was horrible. It was extremely quiet, no music playing, there were 2 other couples in the restaurant and it felt like we all had to whisper. Pretty awkward in my opinion. Also they have cobwebs with spiders in the window, at one point there was a black bug crawling on me and looking out the window they had pieces missing out of the overhang. You think with the amount of money they charge they could make the place a little more inviting. However, I was willing to over look all of that for an amazing meal, sadly that did not happen. My husband ordered the king surf and turf for $85, it was ok. The lobster was good but he has had better prime rib and felt it definitely was not worth the price. I ordered filet mignon prepared medium. When they brought it out I cut into it and it was barely pink and the outside was burnt! I told the waitress I had thought it would be much more pink than this and would it be ok to get another one. She had me put it on a little plate and said she would ask the chef. A couple minutes later she came back with the steak and said this is our version of medium. I just looked at her a little dumbfounded and she said would you like to order another one? Not for $35 I don't. Now looking back I should have demanded a new steak and never allowed her to bring my original one back (I do believe it breaks some health code). But I am not a confrontational person and like I said before it was so quiet in there you could hear a pin drop. So I just let it go and we finished up as quickly as possible and got the hell out of there! So not worth it!! Check out The Stray Dog or Casey's. They are not romantic or fine dining but the food is good and the service is amazing!!
